WEST HOLLYWOOD—Actor Robert Downey Jr.’s son Indio Downey was arrested for cocaine possession on Sunday, June 29.

Indio’s vehicle was stopped by authorities in the area after police spotted him smoking from a pipe near La Cienega Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard. After a search of the vehicle, authorities discovered cocaine in Indio’s possession and he was placed under arrest, sometime after 2 p.m. He was released from police custody Sunday night on a $10,000 bail.

Indio’s father, Robert Downey Jr. has had a history of battling addiction including cocaine, heroin and marijuana, which halted the actor’s career in the late 90s and early 2000s. The actor went to rehab on multiple occasions to get treatment for his addiction, and kicked his addiction in 2001, revitalizing his film career with a sting of box-office hits that included “Gothika,” “Good Night, and Good Luck” and “Zodiac.”

A rep for the actor, released the following statement in response to the arrest, “Unfortunately there’s a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it,” the rep said.

“Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he’s capable of being. We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale.”
