PACIFIC PALISADES—On February 17, J.B. Holmes walked away with his fifth career PGA Tour victory after winning the Genesis Open in Pacific Palisades.
The victory allowed Holmes to qualify for the WGC Championship in Mexico City, which he turned down the opportunity to play in.
Holmes won by one stroke over Justin Thomas, a fellow Kentucky native. Holmes was able to move past a four stroke deficit in the last 18 holes, allowing him a 1-under 70 to finally end 14 under. This has been the first PGA Tour win for Holmes since he won the Shell Houston Open in 2015.
According to an article published by Golfweek, Holmes stated that, “The wind was really blowing hard, it was hard putting. It was the way you want to win. You want to come down the end and be able to hit shots and make some key putts.”
The Genesis Open, held at the Riviera Country Club, experienced heavy winds with a significant amount of bumps and footprints on the course due to the hours of prior players.
Holmes has now moved up from Number 100 to Number 42 in the world.
