WOODLAND HILLS—As of Sunday, October 16, Jerry’s Famous Deli in Woodland Hills has closed for business. The restaurant located on Ventura Boulevard had been in service for over 40 years, first opening in 1973. The restaurant was originally named Solley’s before changing its name to Jerry’s Famous Deli.

The news that the restaurant would be closing its doors permanently was displayed last week with a post on their doors. The note, which was also posted on Twitter, stated:

“To our valued customers,

We regret to inform you, this Jerry’s Deli location will be closing its doors on October 16, 2016. We would like to thank you for you patronage, over the many years. It has been our pleasure to serve you.”

The restaurant was facing financial troubles due to the rising cost of rent. The company’s executive vice president Ami Saffron told the New York Times, “At some point, what am I going to do? Sell a sandwich for $30? That’s not going to happen.”

There are several Jerry’s Famous Deli locations in Encino, Studio City, and Marina Del Ray that are still open for service. The location in West Hollywood closed a few years ago. At one point, the deli had nearly a dozen locations.
