BEVERLY HILLS—Actor, producer, director, and author Kirk Douglas will be celebrating his 100th birthday at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Friday, December 9.

The event will be hosted by Douglas’ son, Oscar-winner Michael Douglas, and his wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. About 150 guests are expected to appear including extended family and entertainment icons like director Steven Spielberg, producer Jeffrey Katzenberg, and actor/comedian Don Rickles, among others.

Douglas is best known for his music and appearances in films such as “Champion,” “The Bad and the Beautiful,” and “Lust for Life.” He has been nominated for Academy Awards, Golden Globes and Emmy Awards. In 1996, he received an Honorary Academy Award for “50 years as a creative and moral force in the motion picture community.” As an author, he has written 10 novels and memoirs.

Douglas is also known for his philanthropic outreach through his Douglas Charitable Foundation. Last year, Douglas and his wife, Anne, planned to donate $80 million to numerous charitable causes and benefactors including the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Sinai Temple of Los Angeles and the Motion Picture & Television Fund.

The Douglas Foundation gave away more than $2 million in grants to Jewish beneficiaries such as Jewish Family Service, Chabad’s Children of Chernobyl and the Anti-Defamation League.
