SANTA MONICA—Due to expectations of lightning in the southern California area, all Los Angeles beaches including Santa Monica were closed on Tuesday, June 30.

There was a 20 percent chance for a storm to occur in the area at night.

Swimmers in Redondo Beach were ordered out of the ocean for the sake of their safety.

Hermosa Beach was closed due to severe weather.

According to the National Weather Service, “The increased cloud coverage is expected to bring some cooling to much of the forecast area on Wednesday, with a gradual cooling trend Thursday through the weekend as onshore flow increases.”
