WEST HOLLYWOOD—A West Hollywood man was killed in a small airplane crash near Lake Tahoe on  Tuesday, July 17.

According to reports, an autopsy conducted by Washoe County Medical indicated that Peter Jackson, 55, died from multiple injuries resulting from the crash. The crash, which occurred south of Truckee, California, also killed the plane’s pilot, 60-year-old Kenneth Whittall-Scherfee.

Jackson and Whittall-Scherfee, along with an unidentified passenger, were treated at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno with critical injuries. Jackson died later Tuesday.

According to reports, Whittall-Scherfee reported engine troubles upon take-off. The pilot attempted to fly back to the Truckee-Tahoe Airport but crashed before they could reach the airport.

The California Fire Nevada-Yuba Placer Unit posted on its Facebook page Wednesday, July 18, that firefighters removed the plane’s fuselage. “CAL FIRE provided an engine and a Chief Officer on standby to ensure the safety of the operation, and in support of the Truckee Fire District. The plane will be secured and inspected by NTSB. The cause of the crash is still under investigation,” stated the Facebook post.
