HOLLYWOOD—It was small yellow creatures who ruled the box-office this past weekend. “Minions,” a stand-alone film to the “Despicable Me” franchise, earned a whopping $115 million in its debut weekend. The movie’s powerful debut outpaced both “Jurassic World” and “Inside Out” which had been battling for bragging rights for weeks.

“Jurassic World” came in second place earning just over $18 million. After over a month in theaters, the dinosaur flick is edging very close to the $600 million mark. “Inside Out” proves to still be a hit with audiences adding another $17.1 million to its tally to land in third place. It’s safe to say the flick will cross the $300 million mark before the end of the week.

While it didn’t have the explosive debut so many hoped for, “Terminator: Genisys” seems to continue thrilling moviegoers adding another $13.7 million to its total to land in fourth place. Its still around $90 million short of accumulating what was spent to make the movie.

Rounding out the top five was the horror flick “The Gallows” which debuted with an impressive $10 million during its opening weekend. This weekend sees the return of the superhero as “Ant-Man” does battle against the comedy “Trainwreck.” I’d say the Amy Schumer starrer has a chance, but I’d be kidding myself wouldn’t I?
