LOS FELIZ—The City of Los Feliz is conducting an intense study on parking related issues in an attempt to curb recent problems.  As it stands now, finding a spot on the busy village streets is hard enough, let alone on weekends when people flood in, in search of good food and thrifting.

The parking committee of the Los Feliz Village Business Improvement District was created earlier this year to handle issues such as these, and by outlining the apparent problems, the committee will use its research to find and implement solutions.

The recent installation of debit/credit card accepting parking meters was an effort to help with this problem.  Back in May, Mayor Villaraigosa unveiled the new card-friendly meters in Los Feliz.  Citywide in Los Angeles, about 10,000 such meters were installed, and in Los Feliz nearly 200 now stand.  At the unveiling ceremony, the Mayor said, “Instead of carrying a bagful of quarters to feed the meter, drivers will now be able to pay quickly and conveniently with a credit card.”

The busy streets of Hillhurst and Vermont are home to many businesses and are a popular weekend destination, not just for residents of the eastside.

The upcoming Los Feliz street fair, though it has been scaled down due to financial pressures, will bring crowds of eager shoppers.  The new card-friendly meters and parking study currently under-way are all in an effort to make Los Feliz an accommodating and accessible destination.
