SANTA MONICAA vehicle on its way to a funeral flipped over on Interstate 15 in Bonsall, California on December 19, killing three people and hospitalizing three others.

The vehicle, a 2001 Ford Expedition, was headed south on I-15 when it rolled over onto the northbound lanes near Gopher Canyon Road cause a closure of the left lanes on both sides of the freeway. California Highway Patrol suspects that tire tread may be at fault for the occurrence.

An individual who was involved in the crash told the CHP the group was headed to Mexico for a funeral.

The San Diego County Medical Examine revealed that the victims were Jerson Ariel Duron Valeriano, 25, and Edith Duron, 22, of South El Monte, and Ivette Garcia, 21, of Los Angeles.

A 2-year-old girl was also involved in the accident. She did not sustain any injuries during the crash, but was taken to children’s hospital. According to CHP, the girl’s uncle and grandmother, 43, also survived and were transported to Palomar Hospital for minor injuries.
