SANTA MONICA—The city of Santa Monica will be hosting a celebration of life event for legendary silent film actress Marion Davies.

“Happy Birthday, Marion!” will take place on Sunday, January 14 at the Annenberg Community Beach House – a property which was formerly owned by Davies and utilized as a guest house. The event will run from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The Santa Monica Conservancy will host the party. The event will feature dancers from Santa Monica’s Arthur Murray Dance Studio as well as musical performances by LA Love Band and a magic show by Tom Frank. Film producer Elaina Archer, UCLA’s curator of History of Medicine and the Sciences, Russell Johnson, and Davies’ biographer Lara Fowler will each speak at the vent. A champagne toast will be held at 1:30 p.m.

Davies was a silent film actress, philanthropist, and the mistress of media entrepreneur William Randolph Hearst. She developed a reputation throughout her life as a well-known Los Angeles socialites and regularly hosted parties frequented by the area’s elite.
