UNITED STATES—On Saturday, October 27, shots were fired after 10:00 a.m. at The Tree of Life Synagogue, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A single shooter, who has been identified as 46 year-old Robert Bowers entered the establishment while three congregations of people gathered for prayer and worship. Bowers shot and killed 11 people, and six others were injured during the incident. He entered the establishment with an assault rifle and three handguns.

He was taken into custody while allegedly shouting “All Jews Must Die.” Authorities requested that the those in the region seek shelter while they secure the scene. The Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety asked individuals to avoid Wilkins Avenue.

President Trump tweeted “Watching the events unfolding in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Law enforcement on the scene. People in Squirrel Hill remain sheltered Looks like multiple fatalities. Beware of active shooter. God Bless All.”

Bowers posted on social media the following message: “I can’t sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics, I’m going in.” He is facing 29 federal charges, some of which are punishable by death. The U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is seeking the death penalty against Bowers.
