SANTA MONICA—Due to the high heat and growing winds, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District allowed for a shortened day on Tuesday, October 24, with students being dismissed at 1 p.m.

The National Weather Service announced that high winds and hot weather will be present throughout the Los Angeles region until Thursday. Not all classrooms in the SMMUSD have air conditioning, which led to Superintendent Ben Drati to implement the completion of air conditioners for all 16 schools.

The SMMUSD allowed for students whose parents were unable to pick them up at the dismal time to stay in air conditioned rooms, or rooms with fans until their parents arrived.
