WEST HOLLYWOOD—The popular chain boutique hotel, The Standard, is planning to begin selling marijuana products in its lobby starting next year. The Standard posted on its Instagram page the following statement:

“Big news, people. In early 2018, we’re opening the country’s first-ever cannabis dispensary in a hotel with none other than @thelordjones at The Standard, Hollywood. Whether you’re a guest, a local, or just passing through, we’ll have what you need.”

The hotel will feature a full retail shop run by Lord Jones, a two year-old cannabis company that creates and distributes different types of weed products. Products include gumdrops, chocolates, caramels, chews, body lotions, and special Lord Jones shirts. It is to be the company’s first retail store and will be located right beside the front door, facing Sunset Boulevard.

The partnership between the hotel chain and the company was announced on Friday, November 17, but the store will not open until 2018. The Los Angeles Times reported, while California residents voted to approve recreational marijuana use, it is still illegal under federal law. Any laws that allow the company to begin selling such products are not yet in effect. Several state laws will go into effect on January 1, 2018. The city of West Hollywood determine local laws before the company can open.

The Standard Hotel is working on opening a similar Lord Jones retail store in its downtown Los Angeles location. It has other locations around Los Angeles and the United States, including one on Wilshire Boulevard near Westwood.
