SANTA MONICA—A suspicious package was reported Wednesday, February 27 near McKinley Elementary School near the 2400 block of Arizona Avenue.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Tactical Bomb Squad was called in to investigate. Officials from the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District indicated that all students were safe indoors away from the area and kept in communication with the Santa Monica Police Department. Authorities advised parents to pick up their children from the side of campus on Santa Monica Boulevard and Chelsea Avenue until the area was cleared.
The bomb squad found a device that was determined to not contain explosives and the area was cleared before 4 p.m. The SMPD tweeted, “SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE ALL CLEAR: The @SEBLASD Tactical Bomb Squad has determined the device does NOT contain explosives. The area is safe and has been reopened. All residents may return to their homes. Thank you for your patience!”
