MALIBU—A collision involving a taxi cab led to a fire at a Shell gas station in Malibu on Saturday, June 27 at approximately 7:45 p.m.

The taxi driver, allegedly attempting to cut off a vehicle along the Pacific Coast Highway, lost control of the cab and careened into a gas pump which resulted in the bursting of flames.

An on-sight witness @CitizenJoan shared a photo of the fire via Twitter. He wrote, “Fire at Shell station, #Malibu, PCH/Cross Creek car crashed into gas pump @venice311.”

A clerk of the gas station helped cut the flow of gasoline. The firefighters that responded to the scene were able to put out the flames within minutes of arrival.

The incident has not been issued as a hit and run, although the taxi driver fled the scene with a passenger still inside the vehicle after the collision occurred.

No injuries have been reported.
