MALIBU—The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that 19-year-old Zachary Benton Self of Overland Park, Kansas, has been charged with stalking after being found at singer Lana Del Rey’s Malibu home.

Prosecutors of the case noted that as of November 2, Self began stalking the singer through social media. On November 29, the defendant allegedly broke into the singer’s home, whose real name is Elizabeth Grant. Due to ongoing renovations, the home has been unoccupied.

According to a Los Angeles County District Attorney’s press release, construction workers saw Self at the singer’s home on November 30, and contacted police. Prosecutors indicated that he fled the scene when officers arrived. On Tuesday, December 1, Self was located and arrested by authorities near Santa Monica.

He is facing one felony count each of stalking and first-degree burglary and is expected to be arraigned in court on December 3 at the Van Nuys Branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

If Self is convicted, he will face a possible maximum penalty of six years and eight months in state prison. His requested bail is set at $200,000.

The Malibu/Lost Hills Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the case.
