HOLLYWOOD—“Avengers: Endgame” continued its domination at the box-office, but it was closer than I expected. Why? A popular character from back in the heyday made its return to the big screen in a live-action version. Do you recall the name “Pokemon?” Most of you know it, it was a major craze in the early 2000s, and the film “Pokemon: Detective Pikachu” came mere millions from taking the top spot from “Endgame.”

“Endgame” earned an impressive $61.3 million in its third weekend in theaters, while “Detective Pikachu” earned a mighty $58 million during its debut weekend. Yeah, I did NOT expect that flick to cross $30 million so for it to bring in close to $60 million says a ton about critics and there so called perception on the movie. With “Pokemon: Detective Pikachu” faring well in second place, the news was mixed for the Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson comedy “The Hustle.” It brought in a modest $13.6 million during opening weekend.

“The Intruder” dropped to fourth place with $6.6 million to bring its domestic tally to just over $21 million. Rounding out the top five was the comedy “Long Shot” with $6.1 million. This weekend sees the release of the third installment in the “John Wick” franchise “Parabellum” and the feel good flick “A Dog’s Journey.” It might be safe to say that the “Avengers” might be dethroned from the top spot at the box-office.
