GRIFFITH PARK—On Saturday, September 19, the 18th Annual Shane’s Inspiration Walk and Roll fundraiser will take place in Griffith Park.
Shane’s Inspiration is a non-profit organization based in Sherman Oaks that builds Universally Accessible Playgrounds throughout the world. Their mission is to “[create] social inclusion for children with disabilities through the vehicle of inclusive playgrounds and programs,” according to their website. The very first accessible playground in California was Griffith Park’s Shane’s Inspiration Playground, which opened in 2000. The organization became a member of the Clinton Global Initiative, a subset of the Clinton Foundation that brings together world leaders to creative positive change, in 2013.
This year is the first time that the event will also have a 5K/10K Trail Run, in addition to the Walk and Roll. The “roll” aspect of the event accomodates participants with mobility disabilities. There is no registration fee for the Walk and Roll, but participants are encouraged to raise donations on Causevox. The Trail Run costs $40 for the 5K and $45 for the 10K, and participants can register here.
The Grand Marshals for the event will be the cast of the Disney Channel show “Dog With A Blog,” including L..J. Benet, G Hannelius, Kayla Maisonet, Danielle Soibelman, Beth Littleford and Stephen Full. Participants will be able to meet the actors before the ceremony begins.
The event registration area and resource fair will be at Shane’s Inspiration Park at 4800 Crystal Springs Drive. Registration for the Trail Run starts at 6:30 a.m., and registration for the Walk and Roll starts at 7:00 a.m. The Trail Run begins at 7:30 a.m.; the Walk and Roll begins at 9 a.m. There will be a stage ceremony for all participants and 8:30 a.m. The entire event will end by noon.
