UNITED STATES—There are two times of the year that I love more than any other: fall and spring. Spring is indeed here and after the brutal winter that most of us endured in 2014, especially those who lived in the Midwest and on the East coast, I couldn’t be happier to say “So long, March” and “Hello, April!” April is that tricky month; the weather begins to get somewhat warm, and the fun of being outdoors comes back in full-force.

For starters, we can finally pack those winter coats away and break out the spring jackets. On top of that, kids who have been clamored indoors for the past three to four months can get out and enjoy the great outdoors, not to mention the fact that moving our clocks up one hour gives us that extra daylight. Heck, it’s not getting dark till close to 8 p.m. right now, and in another month or so it’ll be 9 p.m.

Perhaps one of the toughest tasks we all face is getting to tackle the epic stress of spring cleaning. I never quite got that phrase because it’s not like people become dormant for the winter months. Cleaning still takes place; it’s just done indoors versus outdoors. There is one thing that must be acknowledged: a brutal winter can usher in a ton of work to get things back in order for the impending months.

That lawn that has been covered in snow or froze to death has to be treated.  It’s not as simple as just watering. There is racking up all that dead grass, picking up trash surrounding the home, cleaning up dog mess, checking the windows surrounding the home and let’s not forget about the roof or those gutters. The point I’m addressing is that spring can become a costly time of year for many Americans. Anywhere from hundreds to thousands of dollars will be spent to get the home back in order. Is it worth it? Some would argue YES, others, MAYBE SO. I guess it depends on how much you care about your property and what is depicted to the rest of the world. Some go way beyond what is needed to present a glorious front. That’s the problem with Americans; we’re always aiming to outshine someone else at all costs.  That includes cracking the bank a bit or putting one’s body in a dangerous spot.

With spring here in full force, the raindrops will soon usher in as well as all the craziness that comes with being outdoors. Spring is here and it’s a terrific time of the year!
