SANTA MONICA—On Friday, June 26, there will be a prescribed plot burn in the Santa Monica Mountains located near Santa Monica Road and Dirt Mulholland Road from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The burn is being led by The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) in coordination with The Los Angeles County and Los Angeles City Fire Departments.
According to the MRCA Fire Division, there are multiple benefits of this burn plan. “The plot burn is part of an ongoing effort to reduce wildfire risk, improve ecosystem health, and enhance community protection through strategic fuel management,” MRCA states.
This burn will be conducted by trained personnel and is approved under both an Incident Action Plan (IAP) and a chief-approved burn plan. It will be conducted in one plot area at a time throughout the eight hours on Friday.
There will be temporary road and trail closures around the area to ensure public safety. Motorists close to Santa Monica Road and Mulholland Road are cautioned to watch for reduced visibility, smoke, and to expect traffic delays.
Residents in nearby communities are advised not to report visible smoke unless they observe smoke or fire from outside the projected burn area. Residents sensitive to smoke are advised to limit outdoor activity.
