SANTA MONICA—On August 17, the Santa Monica Animal Shelter will be teaming up with news stations including as NBC4 Southern California and Telemundo 52 for the fifth annual, “Clear the Shelters.”

Shelters throughout Southern California will be opening at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will reduce their cost to $20 per pet.

The adoption campaign raises the awareness of pet adoption and goal is to reduce the amount of animals in shelters.

NBC and Telemundo 52 is encouraging the public to post a picture of their new pet and use hashtag #Adoptdontshopsm so the picture can be shown on TV.

Both networks will be speaking about the importance of spraying/neutering, micro-chipping and helping everyone find the right pet.

The Santa Monica Animal Shelter has been open since 2003 and is located at 1640 9th, Santa Monica, CA 90401.
