Bakersfield, CA – In the early hours of Thursday, September 25, 2025, a high-speed single-vehicle crash left a man dead in northwest Bakersfield, according to KBAK.

The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around 1:34 AM in the 11500 block of Hageman Road.

Officers arriving on the scene found a blue GMC Acadia that had collided with a tree. The driver was partially ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when, for reasons still unknown, the driver lost control and struck the tree.

Authorities continue to examine whether factors such as speed, road conditions, or mechanical issues contributed to the crash. This investigation remains ongoing.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.  Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
