Cricket may not yet rival hockey or basketball in Canada, but recent data suggests the sport’s footprint is growing, especially when it comes to fan interest in the sport’s venues and infrastructure. Canadians are turning to Google in droves to search for information on the best cricket grounds in the country. But which provinces are leading the charge?
A new study conducted on behalf of Tooniebet, a Canadian sports and entertainment platform, analyzed Google search data to uncover which provinces are most interested in cricket grounds. The study compared search volumes for well-known cricket venues to 2025 population figures. The findings reveal a potential nationwide shift in how the sport is perceived and followed.
Provinces With the Most Interest in Cricket Grounds
According to the study, the following are the top five provinces with the most interest in cricket venues:
1. Ontario
Given its population of 15.99 million, it’s not surprising that Ontario leads the pack. The province recorded a staggering 127.02 monthly searches per 100,000 residents, which is 321.6% above the national average of 30.13. Among its average of 20,320 monthly searches, “Toronto Cricket Club,” “Niagara Cricket Center,” and “Sunnybrook Park Cricket Ground” were the most popular ones.
2. Quebec
Quebec recorded 28.24 monthly searches per 100,000 residents, which is 6.3% below the national average. With a population of 9.03 million, this translates to 2,550 monthly searches. Popular search terms included “Niagara Cricket Center,” “Canada cricket stadium,” and “Maple Leaf North West Ground.”
3. Prince Edward Island
Like Quebec, Prince Edward Island also averaged 28.24 monthly searches per 100,000 residents. Its population of 177,081 recorded a modest 50 monthly searches and was interested in “Canada cricket grounds,” “Maple Leaf Cricket Club,” and “Toronto Cricket Ground.” Consistent interest in smaller provinces like Quebec and Prince Edward Island indicated “a widespread fascination with cricket infrastructure across the country,” according to a Tooniebet spokesperson.
4. Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia ranks fourth with an average of 24.24 monthly searches per 100,000 residents (19.5% below the national average), translating to 260 monthly searches from its population of 1.07 million. Popular searches included “Niagara Cricket Center,” “Maple Leaf Cricket Club,” and “Sunnybrook Park Cricket Ground.”
5. Newfoundland
Newfoundland recorded notable search volumes relative to the size of its population. It had 110 monthly searches and an average of 20.32 monthly searches per 100,000 residents, which is 32.6% below the national average. Newfoundland residents were most curious about “Canada cricket stadium,” “Rosedale Cricket Ground,” and “Toronto Cricket Ground.”

The following provinces round out the list:
- New Brunswick ranks 6th with 18.80 searches per 100,000 residents.

Final Thoughts
The study paints an intriguing picture of how cricket is gaining traction across Canada. While Ontario naturally leads the way, it’s evident that cricket’s appeal extends beyond a single region. “This data highlights the growing curiosity and engagement around cricket venues in Canada,” a Tooniebet spokesperson said. As cricket becomes more popular and residents eagerly search for information on their local cricket venues, it will be exciting to see how this growing engagement translates into further support for the sport.
