UNITED STATES—I honestly don’t know how to say this, so I will be blunt, I cannot stand lazy people. It boils my blood to a degree because you see someone working and giving their all, while another just skates by. It’s maddening to me and at times I cannot help but shout out how frustrated I am. Is it annoying to deal with lazy people at home? Yes, but I find it more frustrating to have to deal with lazy people at work.

Why? The fact that someone is collecting a paycheck just like me and getting paid when they are not fully performing their job disturbs me. Not just the fact that the employee think it is ok, but the fact that the employer doesn’t take some sort of action to nip it in the butt. I mean I witnessed this with my very first job as a teenager and it appalled me. Why? I used to work my ass off ensuring things were completed to a ‘T’ at my place of employment. I’m exhausted and burnt out, while you have these people over here making the same amount of money as me and just sitting around or taking extensive breaks. It got to the point where I stopped conversing with those co-workers. We have nothing in common and I’m not a fan of a person who doesn’t have a similar work ethic as myself.

Being someone who now works in management, I simply don’t allow lazy workers. If you’re not doing your job, I’m going to call you out on it. Either get it in gear or find another place of employment because if you think you’re going to work here and not perform your job think again. I find this often with people who work from home. They have this tendency to think they’re not being watched when they are being watched. I mean your work screams wonders to management when mistakes are made that should have NEVER transpired to begin with.

In addition, if you’re someone who is supposed to bring in orders and you go a day without any orders that is a telling sign. Were you actually working or were you doing something else? I mean if the next staff member comes in the following day and all they see are things unfinished you cannot hide from that. It’s not just management’s job to address lazy workers, co-workers should not be afraid to call a spade a spade. Its not about looking better to the boss, it’s about increasing productivity and taking the company to the next level.

It also creates an interesting dichotomy at work where you have certain people doing the job of several people, yet they earn the same pay as their counterpart. It causes those who feel underappreciated to seek better employment. I’m a firm believer of that; if you feel unappreciated find employment at a place where you are appreciated. On top of that, why pay 3 other people to do a job they’re not doing, when you can pay one person who obviously has the skills to perform the job at hand.

The only way to send a clear signal to lazy workers is to cut into their pay. When they realize their hours are being cut or that paycheck they have come to expect is getting smaller, they are going to do one of two things: 1) Get things in gear and show improvement 2) Quit. In my opinion either of those options are great, but you cannot encourage lazy behavior because it’s like a plague that just continues to spread.
