HOLLYWOOD─Sometimes there are just some reboots or remakes you just don’t need. That lesson was learned all too well at the box-office this weekend as the latest reincarnation of “Charlie’s Angels” did battle with “Ford v Ferrari.” It was Christian Bale, Matt Damon and a race pic that ran away with the victory taking in over $31 million at the box-office over the weekend. Solid debut for a flick that has been generating some Oscar buzz for Bale, who seems to never disappoint when it comes to acting.

The flick should enjoy the fruits of its labor because with the major release hitting theaters this weekend it will indeed be short-lived. Landing in second place was last week’s victor, “Midway” with $8.8 million. Dropping more than 50 percent its second week in theaters, “Midway” has amounted over $35 million at the domestic box-office.

Speaking of remakes and reboots, Elizabeth Banks’ version of “Charlie’s Angels” starring Kristen Stewart bombed at the box-office. The action-adventure debuted in third place with a dismal $8.6 million. Not far behind in fourth place was the comedy “Playing with Fire” that earned $8.55 million to bring its domestic earnings to just over $25 million. Yeah, it’s safe to say a lot of flicks are still struggling to connect with audiences at the box-office.

Rounding out the top five was the romantic comedy “Last Christmas” with $6.7 million. Not far behind was “Doctor Sleep” with $6.2 million. As noted, a major sequel hits theaters this weekend as the highly anticipated “Frozen II” arrives. It’s been a long 6 years since the song “Let it Go” changed the world of music as we know it. Does “Frozen II” have another hit of that caliber on its hands? We shall see, but expect big numbers as we head into the Thanksgiving holiday movie lovers.
