HOLLYWOOD—“Hereafter” is a moving supernatural thriller centered on three people. A blue-collar American, a French journalist and a London school boy, who are each touched differently by death. The film is directed by Academy award-winning director Clint Eastwood, but I doubt this film will become an Oscar favorite. Eastwood’s classic directing style is still present, but the story, which is written by Peter Morgan doesn’t seem to pay off to the viewer.

Cast members include, Matt Damon as George, Frankie McLarlen as Marcus, and Cecile De France as Marie. Each performs valiantly in their roles. In fact, the cast is excellent, all doing great acting in a story that just doesn’t seem to mesh very well on the big screen. At times, the plot seems to get lost, and just stalls halfway through the film. Matt Damon is excellent in his role, and deserves credit for it.

Movie soundtracks are something that viewers are often excited about. However, this one falls flat, which was surprising. Most of films directed by Clint Eastwood come across as classics and eventually become cult favorites. This one, however, doesn’t make the cut of the long list of Eastwood greats. However, it’s still a film worth seeing for Matt Damon’s performance alone.

“Hereafter” receives Three of Five Stars from this reviewer. The film opens on Friday, October 22.
