HOLLYWOOD—Leslie Carter, the younger sister of Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, died on January 31 in New York, New York. According to reports, Carter was battling with an addiction to prescription medication some days before her death. Some relatives believe her death may have been caused by an overdose.

The 25-year-old singer had recently moved from Canada to New York to live with her family as she reportedly worked to end her addiction. The Carter family believes Leslie would be fine to be home alone for at least an hour while they ran errands but once the Carters returned home, she was found unconscious. Authorities rushed Carter to the hospital but there was nothing that could be done to revive her.

The reality TV star recorded her debut album in 1999 with Dream Works Records. Her album was set for release in 2000 but was delayed. Her single, “Like WOW” appeared on the “Shrek” soundtrack. She started a small club tour in Canada in December 2005 as well as a showcase in New York City in January 2006.

Later that same year, she created a musical act “The Other Half.” The members consisted of her husband Mike Ashton, DJ Porter, Casey Clowater, Paul Davidson, and Dave Thompson. The band parted ways in September 2009.

She is best known for her role as one of the sisters on the show “House of Carters,” a show based on the Carter family focusing on their musical careers and connecting together as a family. The show premiered on October 2, 2006 and ran for eight episodes.

The official cause of death is still unknown, pending an autopsy report. Leslie Carter is survived by her husband Mike Ashton and her ten-month old daughter Alyssa Jane Ashton.

The Carter family opted not to comment further to the press in regard to their loss.
