Laurel Canyon’s Bread Basket

LAUREL CANYON —The origin of Laurel Canyon, where it meets Sunset, was a fertile alluvial fan, “a flat land area adjacent to a stream, composed of unconsolidated sedimentary deposits [alluvium] and subject to periodic inundation by the stream.” Remember your 8th grade geography class?  We all know about the “inundation part.”

The foothills of Laurel Canyon were fruit orchards at the turn of the century.  It’s still a rich food source, even though in modern times it means dining out or ordering in. It used to be pretty skimpy picking, but now it’s a feast.

So I thought I’d check out the local eateries and see if they’re online, so you can check out the menu ”“ and do they deliver?  We all know delivery up in the hills has always been a beast.

So at the top of the list is Michael Mina’s XIV – guess you need to know your 8th grade Roman numerals ”“ They have a Web site and take reservations online or @ 888-MY-SBE-LIFE. [online is easier] Their prices range from $35-$50/ person.  They scoff at delivery, but will cater.
