MALIBU —A local resident was hit and killed in a car accident on Saturday, April 3, after spending the afternoon with a friend.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Malibu resident Emily Rose Shane, 13, was leaving a friend’s house at the 29000 block of Pacific Coast Highway shortly after 5 p.m. While walking on the right side of the road, the victim was struck by a blue, four-door vehicle.

After the suspect hit the teenage victim with his 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer, the vehicle “struck a power pole and overturned.”

When homicide detectives from the Malibu/Lost Hills Department arrived at the scene, they arrested the driver, 26-year-old Winnetka resident Sina Khankhanian, who was booked for murder.

Though Shane was not believed to be a target of the collision, “Preliminary investigation at the scene suggested that Khankhanian may have deliberately caused his vehicle to crash,” stated the LASD.

Anyone with information that would help this investigation is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
