SHERMAN OAKS—A man in a white Chevrolet utility truck took police on a chase on February 11.

The chase began around 11:35 a.m. leading police through the streets and freeways in the San Fernando Valley. The unknown motorist was wanted for a domestic violence warrant from two weeks ago.

The driver allegedly pistol-whipped his ex’s new partner said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Frank Preciado.

The motorist had a small dog sitting on his lap who managed to escape, but returned to the vehicle. The pup was later rescued by the Animals Regulations Partners.

During the chase, Beach Avenue Elementary, Pacoima Middle School, and Arleta High, were all placed on lockdown as a safety precaution.

The chase continued for about an hour. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the motorist suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The driver finally stopped in Arleta, where police approached the vehicle. The suspect who has not yet been identified to the public was reported dead on the scene.
