HOLLYWOOD HILLS—Patrick Kevin Spurlock, 57, was arrested Friday, August 14, in the 6600 block of Franklin Avenue by the Los Angeles Police Department Robbery-Homicide Division. He is suspected of ordering three victims to the floor during an altercation and then shooting each of them multiple times, killing them. The shooting transpired on July 24 at an apartment on the 1900 block of Wilcox Avenue.

The LAPD reported inside the apartment, an altercation occurred, and the victims were ordered to the floor at gunpoint by the suspect. While the victims lay on the ground, the suspect shot them numerous times. The victims were discovered several days later and were pronounced deceased. They have been identified as Jeremiah Badeker, 50, Jack Cartegena, 44, and Michael Bogacz, 33.

Spurlock now faces three counts of murder with a special circumstance allegation for multiple murders. If convicted, he would be eligible for the death penalty. He also faces enhancement allegations for a prior murder conviction, a prior serious felony, and personally discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury. No motive has been released.

Spurlock is scheduled to appear in a Hollywood courtroom on August 31 for a mental competency hearing, which will determine whether he is mentally fit to understand the charges and assist in his own defense. He is currently being held without bail at the Metropolitan Detention Center.
