MALIBU—Traffic was halted in all directions on Pacific Coast Highway after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on Friday, September 27. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Anna Carrillo indicated that the crash victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A tweet released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lost Hills station noted that the accident occurred around 7:20 p.m. in the 21300 block of PCH near Rambla Pacifico. The victim, a man in his 70s was leaving a restaurant that just opened with his wife of 30 years. He was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by a driver in a Mini Cooper. 

Authorities are still investigating the state of sobriety of the driver. A field sobriety test was administered on the scene according to a photo by The Malibu Times. 

The California Highway Patrol tweeted, “SIGALERT IN MALIBU. NB AND SB PACIFIC COAST HWY IS BLOCKED NORTH OF LAS FLORES CANYON RD. FOR AN UNKNOWN DURATION DUE TO A TRAFFIC COLLISION. — REF LOST HILLS SHERIFF.”
