UNITED STATES—President Donald Trump struck a new trade deal with Japan at the G7 Summit held in Biarritz, France. He was accompanied by First Lady, Melania. The couple was greeted by French President, Emmanuel Macron and his First Lady, Brigitte during their arrival on Saturday, August 24.

President Trump and Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe shook hands on Sunday, August 25 for a trade agreement to take place in the near future.

VOA News reported that the President and First Lady Macron were very hospitable, calling President Trump and Melania, “Their Special Guests.”

On The White House website, President Trump indicated that he and Prime Minister Abe have been working on a trade deal for quite some time now. The trade deal is worth billions of dollars. It involves agriculture and will be great for farmers. President Trump said “It’s a very big transaction. We’ve already agreed in principle.”

The deal involves excess corn in the U.S. Japan will now purchase the extra corn from U.S. farmers. Corn was a product that was once previously purchased by China who according to President Trump, did not keep their word, and did not do what they said they would.

President Trump congratulated the new Prime Minister of Britain, Boris Johnson and discussed the trade agreement and other issues during breakfast on Sunday.

“You’ve been a fantastic friend, and we very much appreciate it.  This is a tremendous deal for the United States.  It’s a, really, tremendous deal for our farmers and agricultural ranchers, and also involves other things, including, as I said, e-commerce,” said President Trump regarding Prime Minister Abe and the Japanese people.

President Trump noted that the United Nations General Assembly is at the end of September. He expects to have a bilateral summit meeting on that occasion.
