SANTA MONICA—Santa Monica is now a smoke free city. November 13 marked the beginning of a city-wide ban of e-cigarettes in public places.

Santa Monica is the latest local city to put such a ban in place, joining Los Angeles, Long Beach, Manhattan Beach, and Beverly Hills as smoke-free zones.

E-cigarettes will now be prohibited in any place that cigarettes are prohibited, including restaurants, bars, clubs, public parks, beaches, and bus stops, among others.

They will also be banned in residential areas that don’t permit smoking, including non-smoking apartment units or shared apartment-complex amenities.

Businesses that want to sell electronic cigarettes will now need city approval, however, prior licenses will still be respected.
