SANTA MONICA—Following a swearing-in ceremony of a new Santa Monica City Council, the Council turned its attention to electing a new Mayor.

Six-term Councilman Kevin McKeown was elected as Mayor by a unanimous vote from his peers. McKeown will serve a one-year term with fellow Councilman Tony Vazquez chosen as Mayor Pro Tempore.

The Council also held a vote for the positions for the following year, with Vazquez set to take over as Mayor and Councilman Ted Winterer as Mayor Pro Tempore.
