SEATTLE,WA– From the opening moment of the Seahawks 49ers game, it was an utter disaster as Seahawks Wide Receiver Rashid Shaheed ran the ball back for a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown. This proved to be the game winning TD- as it only got worse as the Seattle Seahawks demolished the San Francisco 49ers 41-6 on Saturday, January 17 to advance to the NFC Championship.
Next Sunday, the Seahawks and Sam Darnold will host the NFC Championship at Lumen Field. Where they will face either the Chicago Bears or the Los Angeles Rams.
Seahawks Quarterback Sam Darnold was questionable entering the game with an oblique injury sustained in practice this week, but he ended up playing. It was the running game posting 175 yards and three touchdowns.
Let’s not forget there ferocious defense. The Legion of Boom has resurfaced, the Seahawks first trip to the NFC Title game since 2015.
To be fair to San Francisco, the 49ers were plagued with injuries on both sides of the ball. It was one injury after another that derailed their season.
first, the loss of star Tight End George Kittle to an Achilles tear, and further felt the pain when Christian McCaffrey sustained a shoulder stinger. The All-Pro running back kept playing in the second half after being announced as questionable, but the game was far too out of hand to move the needle.
Jake Tonges, the next man up at tight end after Kittle, also went down with a non-contact foot injury in the third quarter. And the 49ers have been missing their two best defensive players, Nick Bosa and Fred Warner, to injury for months now, though Warner returned to practice this week after a suffering ankle injury in Week 6.
It was Ernest Jones IV’s forced fumble later in the first quarter. The second team All-Pro inside linebacker stripped tight end Jake Tonges after a catch. Seattle’s defense held San Francisco to a total of three field goals over their past two meetings.
For the second time in three weeks, Seattle proved it is the better and more complete team, and the 49ers ran out of whatever magic they had mustered for most of the campaign.
A blowout loss to a division rival on the playoff stage will undoubtedly sting for San Francisco as it heads into an important offseason.
