HOLLYWOOD—On Monday, October 11, the Los Angeles Police Department arrested Edgar Pelayo for the alleged murder of his younger brother, 31-year-old Philip Pelayo. Officers were called in to investigate the crime around 4:20 p.m. on Sunday. Police stated that by the time authorities arrived, the victim was already transported by the Los Angeles City Fire Department to General County Hospital at U.S.C. where the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. The cause of death was multiple stab wounds.

According to the LAPD press release, Phillip, 31, was stabbed and murdered near Winona Boulevard. Detective Small of the Los Angeles Police Department stated that at present Edgar Pelayo is the sole suspect, and is “in custody and arraigned.” He added that “charges have been filed with the D.A. though no preliminary hearing has been set.”

Police managed to obtain an arrest warrant for Philip’s brother as a result of Edgar’s immediate escape from the scene of the crime before police could arrive. Authorities caught Edgar, 42, as he was heading south to Coalexico on Monday after midnight.

Police stated that Edgar Pelayo was detained by San Bernadino Police at the San Bernadino bus station at 12:40 a.m. After his arrest, Edgar was sent back to Hollywood to be held on bail of $1 million until further evidence may be obtained.
