HOLLYWOOD—Famed American jazz and pop singer, Natalie Cole died Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Cedar-Sinai Hospital, due to “complications from ongoing health issues,” noted a NBC News report.

According to Cole’s biography, the passing away of her late father, Nat King Cole, greatly affected her, leading to depression and heavy drug use throughout her career. In a song, “Angel on My Shoulder,” Cole explains her struggle. After a stint with recreational drug use at Amherst College, Cole eventually checked herself into rehab in 1983.

She is survived by younger twin sisters, Timolin and Casey Cole and her son, Robert Yancy.

“It is with heavy hearts that we bring to you all the news of our Mother and sister’s passing. Natalie fought a fierce, courageous battle, dying how she lived … with dignity, strength and honor. Our beloved Mother and sister will be greatly missed and remain unforgettable in our hearts forever,” said Timolin and Casey Cole along with her son, Robert Yancy in a statement.

Cole is the daughter of late jazz pianist Nat King Cole, who first rose to prominence in the 1940s, with popular songs such as “Straighten Up and Fly Right”, “Inseparable”and “Unforgettable,” which Natalie Cole later adapted using vocals from her father’s original song.

Cole won nine Grammy awards including Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Record of the Year and a Lifetime Achievement award.

President and CEO of The Recording Academy, Neil Portnow said in a recent statement regarding Cole’s death, “We’ve lost a wonderful, highly cherished artist and our heartfelt condolences go out to Natalie’s family, friends, her many collaborators, as well as to all who have been entertained by her exceptional talent.”

According to Electronic Urban Report (EUR), Cole’s funeral will be held at West Angeles Church of God in Christ on January 11, 2016. However, it is not yet been confirmed.
