SANTA MONICA—Parts of Ocean Avenue between Washington Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard will be closed in Santa Monica for the next several weeks.

The streets will be closed due to construction as the result of two water main breaks that transpired on August 10.

According to the city of Santa Monica, the water main breaks are related to partial pipe corrosion. The city is planning to replace the entire pipe. Officials do not expect water issues for residents during the construction.

The city of Santa Monica recommends motorists to use alternative routes when traveling throughout the region.

There will be two work areas, Ocean Avenue between California and Washington Avenue starting Friday, August 16, both the north and southbound lanes will be closed. The detour will take place through 2nd Street for both south and northbound lanes.

The second work region includes Ocean Avenue between Wilshire Boulevard and California Avenue. The city will issue a notice prior to construction to the work area. Anyone with questions regarding the project can contact the Water Resources Division at (310) 458-8736.
