BEVERLY HILLS—On Sunday, March 3 at around noon, shoppers fled from the Beverly Center Mall near the 8500 Beverly Boulevard following reports of a shooting.

Authorities indicated that the shooting was an apparent suicide, where the victim, took his life with a self-inflicted wound. 

A “code 4” was called. Stores locked their doors and did not let anyone enter or leave the premises. Police officers and firefighters arrived to the scene. Los Angeles Police Department Officer Mike Lopez indicated authorities found an unresponsive male and determined it an apparent suicide. The victim was found inside a Forever 21 changing room. The name of the victim has not been disclosed to the public. 

Ahmed Mahmood told KCAL 9 news that he “heard one shot and then we were shopping and then there was this commission and we needed to evacuate.” Mahmood added he was surprised the shooting transpired in Beverly Hills.

There were no reports of any other injuries during the incident. Anyone dealing with thoughts of suicide, should contact the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.
