HOLLYWOOD—Who is the best soccer player in the world? Cristiano Ronaldo, the Real Madrid superstar retains the title he won last year after helping his team win La Liga and retain the Champions League. Ronaldo was named the world’s best male player at the 2017 Best Fifa Football Awards in London on October 23. The Real Madrid and Portugal forward beat Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Paris St-Germain’s Neymar to the honor. The award recognizes the world’s greatest from November 2016 to November 2017 and is voted on by journalists, national team coaches, captains and the fans.

This marks the fifth time the Portuguese superstar soccer player has been named world player of the year, tying up his fierce on-pitch rival Messi. Ronaldo now looks towards France Football’s Ballon d’ Or, which split from Fifa’s award last year and will be awarded towards the end of 2017. Ronaldo is considered by many as the favorite for that award as well, although he will face fierce competition from Messi and Neymar again. Nike made Ronaldo a special pair of football boots to celebrate winning the award.

So what did Messi say to Ronaldo at the Fifa award? The pair have been in a constant battle for the best player in the world and both seem to have no appetite for slowing down. Though, it was Ronaldo who came out on top. The Argentine reportedly told the Real Madrid star that he deserved to win the award prior to the announcement. While fans of the pair do tend to get hostile in the argument, it has actually been revealed in the past the pair are very friendly.

Ronaldo’s documentary a couple of years back revealed that the pair actually are good friends and have a decent relationship. While, there might be a rivalry, both would admit that the other brings out the best in them. We will have to wait a few months to find out the result of the Ballon d’ Or but if the Fifa Player of the Year award is anything to go by, we know the winner.

In his acceptance speech, he dedicated the award to his family, friends, teammates, coaches from both Real Madrid and his National Team and everyone who supported him. Ronaldo’s manager at Madrid, Zinedine Zidane, was also honored at the awards with the Best FIFA Coach 2017 gong. The event was attended by past and present greats, including Maradona and Cristiano’s Brazilian namesake Ronaldo, who were also present at the Condererations Cup Final.

On October 25, Ronaldo took to Instagram to share a photo of himself toning his quadriceps on a leg extension machine as two of his three children watched on in awe. Ronaldo has one other child named Eva, the twin of Mateo, and is expecting a fourth with his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez.

While Ronaldo will no doubt be back on track traveling to Girona in La Liga on October 29, most of us will be shopping for Halloween outfits and baking Halloween cupcakes. Dressing up as a sports figure for Halloween is lame. If you are going to dress up for Halloween, at least put a little effort into it. So don’t go into your closet and get a Ronaldo shirt and say you’re going as Ronaldo. Very lame. Seems like everyone is going with Wonder Woman or Harley Quinn, a clown or a Zombie.

Most important is to be creative. Paris Hilton is living proof she is prepared for Halloween, especially for her dogs and cats. She has purchased their costumes a week in advance. I haven’t seen her costumes for this year as of yet, but in the past years she has dressed as a Sexy Princess, Sexy Fairy, Sexy Bunny, Sexy Airline Pilot, Sexy Cop, Sexy Military Officer, Sexy Criminal, Sexy Sailor, Sexy Showgirl, Sexy She-Ra, Sexy Ballerina, Sexy Tinkerbell, anything sexy works.
