SANTA MONICA—Iconic nightlife spot, The Victorian, which has held its ground on Main Street in Santa Monica, is ending its long-running history as a bar and restaurant. The Santa Monica establishment will be entering a new era as a family membership club.

Located on 2460 Main Street, The Victorian has been largely renowned as a lively night-out spot while serving cuisine during the day. For 20 years, this has been the case, but the city has new plans to keep the residents of Santa Monica on their toes. The operators behind the Victorian Garner Gerson and Adir Tat were the first to begin this change in late 2025 as the nightlife spotlight was dimming and change was necessary.

“In a realigned Santa Monica, that is what working with our business community looks like – listening when an operator tells us the market has changed and moving quickly so that a historic property stays active, cared for, and open to the community,” said Santa Monica City Manager Oliver Chi.

Official plans for the change began on March 24 as the city council unanimously approved a new lease agreement at a city meeting. The new plan derives from Santa Monica’s existing Realignment Plan, which details economic revitalization along commercial properties on Main Street.

The revamped Victorian will continue to exist as a family membership club, including amenities such as a fitness center, spa, pool, restaurant, coffee bistro, and youth facilities. Additionally, under the new lease, 20 percent of memberships will be set aside to serve as free scholarships for local families, educators, and small business owners.

Many local lovers of The Victorian have visited the establishment to relish in its current state before closure.

“The outpouring of memories about The Victorian over the past few days has been extraordinary. People met their husbands and wives here and celebrated some of the best nights of their lives,” said Adir Tal. “We’re proud of what The Victorian has meant to Santa Monica, and just as proud that this property has a future.”

The Victorian plans to end its historic run with its annual Halloween Party and then immediately close down after. Renovation is expected to begin in late 2026, with an opening targeted for mid-2028.  Membership details and pricing will be announced by the operators in the coming months.
