HOLLYWOOD—I pegged this months ago, when the writers of “General Hospital” did like the 360 of 360 turns on characters, with sweet Drew Quartermaine, suddenly going dark. It just felt so out of the blue, I’m like what the hell, but I loved it because it allowed Drew’s portrayer Cameron Mathison, to show some serious range, because Drew before was like watching paint dry; there just wasn’t much going on there. Drew has gotten quite wicked as of late, especially since he became a congressman.
He has power, and he is not afraid to utilize that power to his benefit. Making threats against Portia, so much to the point that her marriage to Curtis looks like it is kaput. Severing that relationship between Nina and Willow, after it was exposed that he slept with her mother. Telling lies to Wiley about Daisy causing the child to spiral, preventing Willow from chatting with Michael while he recovered from those burns, blackmailing Curtis and his family, going toe-to-toe with his twin brother Jason, not to mention his battles with his own Quartermaine family and alienating Sam’s daughter Scout from her brothers and his grandmother.
Well things culminated this Monday on “GH” with Drew coming home having a drink not realizing that might be his last drink. How so? Someone fired a bullet into his back, before firing another shot into him. I’ll be honest it looked like Drew was a goner and if the soap opera is indeed killing off the character, that is a big one. Why? “General Hospital” doesn’t always kill off major characters, and when they do, they always find a loophole to bring them back. I’ll talk more about that later.
Let’s talk about our list of suspects because we have plenty, but there are two we can remove off the list: Trina and Kai. Why? They were trying to break into Drew’s safe when he arrived home and hid in the bedroom. That’s where they heard the shots. So, they couldn’t have pulled the trigger, but they might’ve gotten a look at the culprit. Portia and Nina commiserated about Drew and his antics, with Portia wishing death and Nina actually issuing a threat. Michael made it adamant he would protect his family and Willow from Drew, Carly threatened Drew’s life, so did Alexis both in public settings. And Willow, she’s not herself and hasn’t been for quite some time.
After the veil was lifted for Willow with that secret involving Nina and Drew, she seems aloof, and I don’t know if that is a good or bad thing to be honest. Michael is almost certain Willow was the culprit causing Sasha to spiral as it pertained to Daisy and her wellbeing. This has pushed Michael to try to prevent Willow from having any contact with Wiley and Amelia at any costs as concerns of their safety swoon. Michael and Carly were aghast to learn that Willow has ‘linked’ back up with Drew in hopes of getting her children back. Now, I know the show does things intentionally to create a suspect list, by having Alexis go toe-to-toe with Drew in public setting with multiple witnesses including Molly.
However, do I suspect Alexis to ‘kill’ again? Potentially, but I would like to see her to be revealed as the culprit behind shooting Drew. It just feels too easy. So that points a major finger directly at Portia, who feels very obvious as a target, but it just feels way too obvious as another target, so she is looking way too easy of a target, and the guiltier that Portia looks from the show’s perspective, it just makes it too obvious so she can’t be the culprit.
That brings me to perhaps two of the biggest suspects in Michael Corinthos and Willow Tait. Why? Willow has seriously been on edge ever since she discovered that Drew slept with Nina. It was right before her wedding, and it left her in a catatonic state. She has been spiraling ever since and it seems like she has been functioning, but she has not been able to put things together. Everyone notices that something is wrong with her including Chase, who has tried to be a shoulder for her to rely on.
Willow is looking more and more like a culpable candidate since she just vacated the hospital on her shift, and everyone noticed what transpired with her behavior, so she is looking like she may have pulled the trigger in a fit of rage, similar to Michael and his wet hair when Wiley could not find him. Would Willow be a stunning surprise as the culprit, in the shooting? Absolutely, why, no one would ever expect it, and it would be a stunning turn of events. However, it would also paint the character into a corner where I wouldn’t know where the writers would do next.
Michael would be a fun candidate because the character has plenty of edge since this recast, and it has given the character that darkness that one would suspect of anyone being Sonny Corinthos’ child. He is being very cagey with his whereabouts, but you now have a situation where, Carly might do any and everything in her power to protect her son, but I will not lie, Carly would be a fun shooter of Drew. Why? I would love to see the character spiral and try to cover her tracks with Jack Brennan trying to protect her at the same time.
There are other things to chat about in Port Charles like Maxie being in a coma after being poisoned. Who poisoned her? We know that her former co-star Ryan Paevey is returning to the soap. If he’s portraying Nathan or not, that has not been disclosed, but I’m starting to think that maybe Cesar Faison might be back in the mix and as the villain that he is, would be an epic reveal.
Why? Hello, Anna’s world would be rocked, Liesl’s world would be rocked, and Britt, wow, just wow, because wherever she is being held or staying she has an idea of the big bad, and we still haven’t seen the face yet. People have chatted about the notion of Peter August returning, but I don’t want to see that character back in the mix. He was a fun villain, but it became annoying after a while. Anna already has enough on her plate, with trying to solve the murder of the judge in Michael and Willow’s case, and now the attempted murder of a congressman.
We don’t have any good villains in Port Charles right now, sorry, Jenz Sidwell is not the villain that people think he is. So, I will usher in whatever surprises that “GH” is ready to deliver for audiences.
