HOLLYWOOD—Sunday night’s season finale of “True Blood” left some critics and fans of the hit HBO vampire drama with mixed emotions. I on the other hand found the episode to be the best of the season. I also found this entire third season to be jolting with excitement and I also enjoyed the entrance of all the new characters over the past several episodes. The writers managed to keep Sookie, Bill, Eric, Bill and Tara as the core of the show, but also opened up great potential for the other super natural beings, including the were-panthers and werewolves. However, Alan Ball said on Sunday night, “expect to see more super natural beings next season, including witches.”

The finale episode entitled “Evil Is Going On” lived up to its title. Eric (Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd) grappled with his conscience while plotting his perfect revenge against Russell (Dennis O’Hare). It was a fitting end to the King of Mississippi, but we all know that even under several tons of concrete and wrapped in silver chains, Russell’s demise is probably not to be. While helping Eric dispose of Russell, Bill decided to try to end Eric’s reign as a vampire sheriff, as well as Pam’s existence. Eric found himself buried in concrete alongside the king, but Pam managed to save him from true death.

Nicole Stuckey was as blown away by the ending as I was. “I was completely mesmerized by tonight’s episode! Eric’s dying, then no, he’s alive. Russell’s gone, then back, then gone again! And Sookie and Bill were on and off more times tonight then all three seasons put together. Jason breaks my heart, he is always trying to do the right thing, but always ends up in a mess! Amazing episode but don’t know what I am going to do without it for a whole year,” said Nicole.

It was also exciting to see Sookie run out of Fangtasia after being revived by Bill in order to save not just Eric but Russell, who both were only minutes from burning to death in the sun. Fed up with being “vampire crack,” Sookie (Anna Paquin) considered a new life without Bill (Stephen Moyer) ”“ or any other vampire. Tara (Rutina Wesley) discovered some surprising news about Sam (Sam Trammell), whose rage resurfaced upon learning of Tommy’s (Marshall Allan) latest transgression. However, after Sam revealed to Tara that he too is a super natural being, a shape shifter, she cut her hair, packed up and drove out of the town of Bon Temps to start a new life. Then Sam fired a gun in the direction of his brother Tommy in the woods.

Jason (Ryan Kwanten) found a new calling after warning Crystal’s (Lindsay Pulsipher) family about an impending drug raid. Crystal was kidnapped by her half-brother, Felton, who will force her to breed their kind and create new were-panthers. Jason landed himself in jail for telling Crystal’s family about the DEA drug “V” bust that was planned.

Sherman Oaks resident and Canyon News reader, Wendy Fujimori was really impressed with last night’s episode. “I loved the finale, Tommy. It was great! Sookie was feeling betrayed by both Eric and Bill. Tara was so traumatized by the past year that she had to leave town and by Jason warning Crystal’s family in Hot Shot, La about the impending government raid, he has screwed up and chance of becoming a cop.

Plagued by visions, Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) turned to Jesus (Kevin Alejandro) for help, and learned his boyfriend has more to offer than companionship. Jesus admitted that he is a witch. Fans are excited about the sexy hunk who will be front and center next season.

Hoyt (Jim Parrack) chose Jessica, a vampire to be his wife and signed a new lease on a house so that they can live happily ever after. We all know that is an impossibility in Bon Temps. Hoyt’s mom Maxine (Dale Raoul) was finally pushed over the edge when Hoyt dumped Summer (Melissa Rauch) once and for all.

Rene Thurston tells Canyon News, “Tommy, you know my deepest hope was a reprieve for Russell, evil as he may be. I’m thrilled that his end, though heinous, was not the true death, allowing for his possible return in future seasons. The overwhelming desire for revenge against Sookie for throwing out the remains of his beloved Talbot should be enough for him to find a way to escape his concrete grave! Also, with Lafayette’s true powers yet to be revealed, I hope that he and Jesus are able to continue forward in a positive way, especially since Lafayette deserves some happiness after all he’s been through.”

“I expected more from tonight’s show. While it was good, I wanted Russell to be torn into shreds and burned, so he could never return. I was happy with Hoyt and Jessica’s reunion, but his mother is planning something terrible. Here’s hoping Sookie can find her way out of Fairyland to pull all her friends together. Can’t wait until the new season starts, said Bobby Head.

Bill decided to protect Sookie by killing the Queen of Louisiana. Did Bill kill her? A despondent Sookie ran to her grandmother’s grave to proclaim her loneliness only to meet with Claudine and other fairies. Sookie disappeared into the light at the conclusion of the show. Where did she go? All questions we’ll have to wait to find out.
