WESTWOOD—A fire broke out at the UCLA School of Dentistry on Tuesday, April 14. The fire was reported to officials from the Los Angeles Fire Department at around 1:31 a.m. in building 48A on 714 Tiverton Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they found fire and smoke emerging from the third floor of the seven-story building.
Brian Humphrey, Public Service Officer for the LAFD noted that 120 firefighters under the command of Battalion Chief Al Abarca confined the fire to one classroom and an office area on the third floor, extinguishing the flames in about 42 minutes. The LAFD was able to prevent any serious property loss and structural damage to the building.
There were no reports of anyone being injured during the fire, and the building was equipped with fire sprinklers, which helped limit some the flames. The monetary loss from the fire is unknown at press time. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by officials.
