WEST HOLLYWOOD—The city of West Hollywood has set up a cooling center starting today at the Plummer Park Community Center Senior Lounge located at 7377 Santa Monica Blvd.
The cooling center will be open until 7 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 30 and July 1. The cooling center days will be extended if temperatures continue to rise. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 86-89 degrees till July 1.
West Hollywood opens publicly available cooling centers whenever heat waves pose a danger to the public.
There is also free transportation to Plummer Park with the Cityline Service, which is an ADA-accessible shuttle. It operates from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday to Saturday. Shuttles depart every 30 minutes.
The city advises residents to stay safe, as high temperatures coupled with low humidity can be perilous for health. Arduous exercise especially from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. should be avoided, and people, even pets, should not be left in a car. To avoid body core temperatures from rising, one can also wear light colored, loose fitted clothes and stay hydrated.
