WEST HOLLYWOOD—Deaf West Theatre and The Forest of Arden has announced the dates for their production of “Spring Awakening.” The play is based on the German play, “Frühlings Ermachen” which was written by Frank Wedekind. Deaf West initially accepted auditions tapes until mid-April and began rehearsing during the month of July.

According to the event’s Kickstarter page, The Forest of Arden “is a collective of artists, designers, actors and writers who strive to create immersive, imaginative and provocative theatrical experiences in Los Angeles,

California and beyond, with an emphasis on site-specific work. Their critically acclaimed production of “La Ronde” is currently being developed into a feature film.”

According to the Kickstarter page, “Andy Mientus (“Smash,” Broadway’s new “Les Miserables”) is another alumnus of the show, along with Michael Arden, Artistic Director of The Forest of Arden, developed the idea of a new “SPRING AWAKENING” using Deaf West’s signature style to punctuate and deepen the musical’s themes of communication and oppression.”

The event has already collected $21,766 out of $25,000 as of August 11. Deaf West’s Kickstarter fundraiser will end on August 20 at 5:30 p.m.
