SHERMAN OAKS — The Los Angeles Unified School District has revealed that its schools have displayed a slight increase in SAT scores and a number of test-takers for the 2013 school year, according to a recent press release from the LAUSD website on Monday, October 21.
Citing numbers from the College Board, the organization behind the SAT tests, the LAUSD broke down the numbers relating to the district.
The average scores for the various sections is 500 for the 2013 school year. Compared to 2012, students have shown an increase in mean score, on a scale from 200-800, from 431 to 435 in critical reading, 441 to 442 in math and 436 to 437 in reading.
In terms of the highest average overall scores, the LAUSD names the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies Magnet, the Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies Magnet, the Harbor Teacher Prep Academy, Van Nuys Senior High and North Hollywood Senior High as the top five schools.
“The trend continues in the right direction as more 12th-graders take these challenging exams and scores continue to rise,” said LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy.
Among the other categories, Harbor Teacher Prep Academy displayed the highest percentage of seniors taking the SAT, LA High School for the Arts at Robert F. Kennedy campus, had the highest increases in average SAT scores. East Valley Senior High, Marshall Senior High, Narbonne Senior High andRoybal Learning Center were found to have the highest increase in number and percentage of SAT test-takers.
On a statewide level, there has been a similar uptick in the number of test-takers and mean scores.
The College Board revealed last month on a national level, 43 percent of test-takers in the graduating class of 2013 met the SAT benchmark for college readiness; which has remained the same for the past five years.
