SANTA MONICA—Debbie Lee will lead the new Public Affair and Communication Officer position. Lee will continue the duties held by Deputy City Manager Kate Vernez, who is retiring this summer.

She will be managing an annual budget of approximately $2.2 million. In addition, her responsibilities will consist of overlooking Public Information, Community Relations and CityTV. She has more than 15 years of experience working in this particular field.

Rod Gould, City Manager, announced in a press release that, “She is known for her communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills. “She will add value on day one, and like Kate Vernez, she works well with all in our community.”

“ Santa Monica is a dynamic and beloved city, and its people make this place great,” said lee. “I’ve been fortunate to spend the majority of my career inSanta Monica and I look forward to keeping the community engaged and informed on the efforts of the City of Santa Monica.”

She worked as a vice president in Santa Monica, Inc. She has spent the majority of her career in the City, where her responsibilities included website management, social media and public relations.

Lee will be earning $155,784 a year and is expected to assume the position on July 7.
