SANTA MONICA—Santa Monica police encountered trouble with a customer at a Sephora Store in Santa Monica on June 20.

A loss prevention officer notified the police immediately of illegal activity that was taking place at the make-up shop at approximately 3:30 p.m. The suspect who was involved has been identified as Michelle Calderon.

Calderon attempted to gather non-purchased items from the Sephora store, located in the 1200 block of Third Street, and return them in order to gain profit. As she tried to return the items, she presented a receipt that matched the items she wanted to return.

She then purchased new items with the credit she received from the items she returned earlier. While she was in the process of making her latest purchase, she wanted to return other items for which she did not have receipts.

When Calderon was followed and questioned by a loss prevention officer she pretended to be unaware of the issue.

Calderon has been booked for theft with intent and a probation violation.
